The Drum Venting system for
Remote Handled (RH-TRU) Waste
performs the following tasks:
- Safely installs WIPP-certified filters into Transuranic (TRU) waste drums. These filters are designed to allow hydrogen and other gases to leave the drum while safely containing radioactive materials.
- The RH-TRU Drum Venting System is designed to operate efficiently with one or more crew members.

NucFil-407 Drum Vent Filter
- This filter is designed to penetrate the drum lid and lock into place.
- The locking function assures the filter is not over installed or torqued.
- Filters are certified carbon-carbon NucFil HEPA drum vent filters that meet WIPP WAC and TRUPACT-II SAR Appendix 1.3.5 requirements. The filter design passes the DOT 7A drop test, stacking test, vibrations test, bar penetration and water entry test.

RH TRU Drum Venting System Overview:
- The RH-TRU Waste Drum Venting System consists of an Operator Control Hut and a "drum work area" with a Hoist System, Shielding Area, Containment Chamber, Powerhead, Overpacks, Staging Table, Vacuum System and Shielding blocks.
- Filters are installed utilizing a "cold drilling" process. The cold drilling sequence is initiated by the operator and observed via video camera positioned on the inside of the closure lid.
- From inside the control hut (positioned 20ft away from drum work area) the operator can monitor filter installation and overall system performance.
